English as a Global Language At present times, monolingual people are being perceived as global analphabets. The actual state of communication vehicles allows information to travel the world as fastest as ever before, however not all languages are being spread or used equally. Throughout western history it was common to have an overpowered language during the expansion of any civilization, the Greeks, the Roman, etc. The dominant nation would out-spread their language and indoctrinate the occupied areas with their own language where they would bring new concepts and culture in order to effectively establish their domain. Originally the language?s proliferation was due to the colonial force of the English culture, first at the nearby occupied territories surrounding england, and ultimately with the Commonwealth and over-sea colonies where English substituted local dialects. Nowadays having the same purpose of being a common language where different dialects meet. But besides the colonial and geographical aspect of the language range, there is also the overall notion that the language is easy to be learned by people with any language background even if greatly different from the target language. European languages differ greatly from each other and communication between these countries at institutional level is in English (European Union) despite the fact that the united kingdom is not a ?full-member? it is their native language that is disseminated in European institutional affairs. At a greater scale, there is the United Nations. Within this political context the language choice can be indirectly due to the fact that the English language reaches neutrality on its practical use, while other languages could heavily carry cultural and formality levels that a non-native couldn?t avoid or master. English neutrality and ?democratic? level could ease the communication error and subtleties. At a common level of usage, it can be inferred that while travelling in any European country there is some expectancy of English knowledge. Even if not being established as the country?s second language the expectancy is there. At a greater scale there is, for instance, the Asian axis of economic power, despite the very different language context and culture, the cities and states that are greatly capitalized are aided by English language. English language has the ability to share either simple or complex vocabulary concepts with other cultures. When communication is needed and information required, English language even at its poorest level of vocabulary knowledge can provide a speaker and a listener with one or two words that allow the communication to be effective. This is probably the best way for the language to easily disseminate. At this point is it is relevant to state the language influence at scientific and academic level where plenty of jargon words in niche content are propagated in English. This makes any professional, of any field of expertise, to have the need to be equipped with English language in order to proceed with their knowledge intake in a specific field of expertise. While at the media level, with the internet and popularized features of online socializing, the most common used language is still English. This makes English as a learning language to be sought by many eager learners that desired to be exposed to the ?world?. Thus it is safe to say that English language is the modern lingua franca, and media and scientific communities, as well as technological improvements, are making it outlast.
