Teach English in Chengnan Jiedao - Beijing

Through this course, I?ve learned a lot about grammar, course materials and preparation, and myself as a teacher. First and foremost, I?ve learned a great deal about class planning. I?ve enjoyed writing out lesson plans and establishing a clear-cut path to ensure the lesson?s overall presentation. Also, I?ve started to utilize the Engage, Study, and Activate phases that are in the classroom. As a current ESL teacher in South korea, I?ve stopped myself briefly during the class and have said to myself ?Wow. This is the study phase.? By identifying those stages, it is easier to establish a more effective class. On a personal level, I?ve learned that while no one will ever be perfect in english grammar, I need to take my time, double-check my work, and make sure I understand FULLY the material. That last thing I want as a teacher is not being prepared. When a teacher doesn?t fully understand the lesson in front of the class, how do you think the students are going to react? Not good. So, I?ve learned to carefully plan and understand each lesson. Last, I?ve learned that as an ESL teacher, you can never be perfect. People are always learning better ways to teach and in this profession, methodologies are always changing. I need to remember to keep up-to-date with the best teaching strategies and to always utilize my resources whether it is books, teachers, or past experiences. It?s always good to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. Through this course, I?ve realized that I am not as educated as I want to be as a teacher and after being certified, in only two months, I will be attending The New School in new york where I will be obtaining my Masters in TESOL. ittt was only a start and I?m nowhere close to the finish line.
