Teach English in BeixiaguAn Jiedao - Beijing

The course gives me the idea on how to make class interesting through a variety of activities. As real objects are likely to make lessons come alive, I will bring realia into the classroom, such as pictures from magazines, photos from home or my travels etc. Now I realize the importance of lesson planning- I will have to think about what I want to teach before I enter the classroom. A well-organized lesson makes students comfortable and will lessen the need for explanations. If students know that they do listening, then writing in pairs etc, they will automatically be prepared for what they have to do. Working in pairs and in groups could be effective, both weaker students and stronger students benefit in this arrangement - stronger students solidify their knowledge of english because they have to explain things to the weaker students. And weaker students benefit because they get things explained to them in different ways. Teaching children can be challenging just because it?s difficult to get their attention and keep it for an extended period of time. Yet, I have learned from this course how to make teaching young learners easier. For instance, move around, plan a bunch of shorter activities instead of one long one etc. I will always keep an open mind and expect the unexpected. A back-up plan is needed. There are many ways to correct students? errors, such as pause and give them a chance to correct themselves, ask the class to help etc. It is important to know whether or not an error correction is appropriate in that situation. Testing /assessing students would be very useful in identifying which aspects require more practice and planning next lessons. Overall, this is an excellent TEFL training course. The tutor is knowledgeable, professional and very supportive. I started the course not knowing where I would begin, but now I feel prepared to walk into an english classroom and teach.
