First of all, in my opinion, a teacher should limit him/herself with one material. Teachers should be able to be ready to any change requiring for the benefit of a lesson. They sometimes might need to adapt what is showed in a course book. A course book might not be enough or might be difficult to the needs of students, therefore a teacher should omit some things or add a material. I think there are two effective things to do for a lesson. One is that authentic materials could appeal more to students - of course with the condition that it is to be selected carefully- in comparison to created ones. Up-to-date topics, texts, songs, news and so on could draw the attention of students more. The other one is that even if what is showed in a course book is technically appropriate, teachers can even adapt them to the way students will enjoy it. That is to say, the purpose can be to enjoy a lesson more. And I do think specifically that when it comes to speaking activities, teachers should absolutely put course book aside and get the most advantage of created (any) written or oral games. It would be great to do so.
