Discipline in the ClassroomThis is one of the most important value that a child must be taught. It is this single value that would save the child from straying into the wrong path. Just as the song would say, ?Honesty is such a lonely word. Everyone is so untrue.? Sadly, the value of honesty these days has either been forgotten, neglected, or abused especially to ?ungodly?, unfaithful and immoral people with lack of faith and moral values. Somewhere along the way as children grow up, they?ll encounter and meet people and circumstances that would test, tempt, or influence them to lie. Teachers or parents need to emphasize that regardless of the intention of the lie (whether white lie or not), it?s still the same ? it?s still a lie! And we know that lying is bad and that it is a sin against God. We have to explain the importance of honesty. ?An honest person will be trusted, liked, and respected by people because of his integrity, reliability, and good reputation. But a person who lies or cheats, will easily break the trust of the people around him, will turn against him, and will doubt his reliability and integrity as a person.? It helps to explain the cause and effect of the action or wrongdoing. If the child is hesitant to tell the truth, the parents or teacher should explain to him that it takes courage and a brave heart to be humble enough to admit that we?ve been wrong, or we made a mistake. We just have to know ?why? and we will listen attentively to him. After explaining himself, it needs to be explained that however, there are consequences for a bad or disobedient behavior (as long as it?s not physically and emotionally harsh or violent way of enforcing discipline) in order for him to learn and understand. It?ll make him realize and remind him to take responsibility for his actions, and not to do the same mistake again.
