From this unit I have learnt that a good teacher is compassionate with a certain amount of empathy for the students and their individual situations. They should be able to motivate others, whilst have a passion for teaching. Teachers should also be able to focus on individual strengths and weaknesses in order to help and encourage students in their learning process.
One of the greatest challenges for a teacher maybe the audience. For example young learners may have less motivation. Most young learners Haven't made an active choice to study a language and would rather be doing something else with their free time. Such as playing with friends and may see learning as a rather boring activity, compared to playing computer games or watching TV for example. As a teacher it is important to also acknowledge age, cultural background, ability to learn and personal situations such as demotivation for example a child being bullied and encourage the child to talk about it and build a rapport with the student. If the classes are interactive and visual this creates a sense of fun as well as learning and then the students will want to come to class and enjoy learning new things.
