Unit 13 focused on pronunciation and phonology. It also explained that pronunciation is an aspect of ESL that is often neglected to a degree because english teachers do not have the skill or training to which enable them to accurately point out the subtle differences in pronunciation which are helpful to the students. The science of linguistics and pronunciation is obviously a very fascinating and intricate science which must take years to master. This unit gave some basic rules and suggested techniques to aid with teaching pronunciation.There are many different kinds of tests that teachers give students. With tests, you can gauge a students language level, and you can also find out how much knowledge a student has retained. Placement tests are at the very beginning of the course to find out what class to put the students in. Diagnostic tests are also at the beginning of the course, and are used to prepare the teacher for future lessons. Practice tests prepare students for exams, and progress tests are given throughout the course to see how much the students have learned.
