This Unit focused on how to maximize learning based on the arrangement of the classroom, the grouping of the students into smaller to whole class groups, and on teaching methods and student behavior. It gave many tips on how to maximize student talking time and learning without forfeiting effective teaching methods. It once again emphasized the importance of how the teacher maintains rapport with each student and how the teacher encourages the students to interact with each other and help each other. It is important to be vigilant with students and be aware of their attention and behavior. It is better to intervene as soon as there is an issue rather than waiting for it to escalate. It is important to maintain discipline early on. Once a teacher has learned more about the students and behavior the teacher can relax discipline as is appropriate. It is better to correct a student privately, after class in order to avoid embarrassment and to create a safe learning environment for the rest of the class. In order to maximize student talking time and therefore, practice and learning, it is important for the teacher to be aware of the many way to limit teacher talking time and still providing necessary instruction, direction, and feedback. Above all, the teacher must be kind and flexible and willing to adjust their teaching according to the current needs of the students.
