The unit which talks about vocabulary, grammar and language functions, gives lots of directives on the various aspect.The unit highlights factors that determine how easy or difficult a vocabulary is and that selecting vocabulary to be taught though difficult there are guiding criteria like appropriacy to task and students. In the unit we see different approaches to help teach vocabulary, grammar and functions.these could be through the use of pictures,contrast, realia amongst others.The unit provides sample activities that will facilitate the learning of these aspects of the language.Activities like word search, gap fill exercises, matching words to visual prompts ,dialogues, role play and many others could be used to help students better assimilate the language point being taught Through the use of example lesson plans the unit further explains the aspects of which lesson formats would work best. From this unit I have learnt that grammatical structures are better taught according to level and vocabulary should focus on how appropriate it is to students and the task, its frequency and coverage and how teachable it is.So with this in mind if students can understand the meaning, understand how to construct these language points, can practise and produce it and are exposed to the language then results can be maximal.The unit has also broaden my store of teaching ideas as it gives a pool of sample teaching ideas from which I can choose. I also now understand a lot further the importance of using ESA system ( which I saw in unit three ) to make the teaching of these language points more and easily understandable to students which could work much better with lower level students.
