Past tenses are: Past Simple, Past Contunuous, Past Perfect and Past Perfect Continuous. Past simple is used to express an action that happenned in a certain moment in the past (with no connection with the present): I went to bed at seven o'clock yesterday. It is formed by the Subject+past tense of the verb+object+other. If the verb is regular, D/ED or will be added (play-played) , irregular verbs have a past form of their own.The question form will use DID +Subject+ infinitive verb form+object+other and for the negative form: Subject+did not(didn't)+infinitive+other. Present Continuous Tense expresses actions that were lasting in the past and that were either interrupted (I was cooking when he came.) or two contemporary past actions (While I was studing, mum was cooking.), or for descriptions (When I woke up the sun was shining and he was lying next to me...). It is constructed by the verb be in the past + ing verb form. Question form: past form of the verb be+subject+in verb form+other and negative form: by addin not after the auxiliary verb be in the positive form. Past perfect Tense is used to describe an action that happened before another past action (By the time I came, Marco had already left.). It is constructed by Subject+had+past participle+other.Question form is constructed by inversion of the subject and the past form of the verb have: Had+Subject+past participle. Past perfect continuous is used to express an action that was going on in the past until a certain moment (By the time he came, I had been waitin for two hours.). It is constructed by Subject+had+been+ing verb form. Questions: inversion - Had+Subject+been+ing verb form. Negative form: Subject+hadn't(had not)+ been+ing form.
