Conditionals are sentences containing IF/ WHEN which refer to the past, present and future possibilities. There are two clause: 1- The IF . 2- The main clause. Both of them can come in the first part of a conditional sentence . The IF close contains the condition that has to be satisfied before the action or state in the main clause can be realised. There are five main Conditionals : Zero Conditional - If/when + present tense, present tense. It refers to actions and facts that are irrefutable. First Conditional - If + present simple, will/may,might,can,must,should. About real situations in the future that is possible, probable and certain, once the condition has been satisfied. Second Conditional - If + past simple,would/could/might + base form. Communicates a present or future unreal , hypothetical situation that is presently not true . Third Conditional - If + past perfect, would/could/might + have + past participle. Refers to a hypothetical past action or not action and the hypothetical past consequences or result. As the action was purely hypothetical , the condition could never have been satisfied and the consequences is or was impossible. Mixed Conditional - If + past perfect, would + base form. Sometimes we combine a second conditional clause with a third conditional clause.
