This unit gives us a brief understanding of Future Tense and its different forms and Usages. Future tense expresses a Future event or a Future state of being. For example: ? I will jump in the lake (future event) ? I will be happy (future state of being) 1. Future Simple Form: will + verb in the base form Usages: Simple Future tense is used for an action that will occur in the future. Examples: We will celebrate our anniversary by flying to New York. I will play after breakfast. 2.Future Continuous Form: subject + will + be +verb + ing (present participle) Usages: Future Continuous tense is used for an ongoing action that will occur in the future. Example: The Mumbai State Circus will be performing in Bandra for the next 3 weeks. I will be playing for an hour. 3.Future Perfect Form: will+ have + past participle. Usages: Future perfect tense is used to describe an action that will have been completed at some point in the future. Example: By the time you arrive, we will have finished the meal and the speeches. I will have played by breakfast. 4.Future Perfect Continuous Form: will+ have + been + verb+ ing Usages: Future perfect Continuous tense is used for an on-going action that will be completed at some specified time in the future. Example: In July next year, you will have been studying for three years. I will have been playing for 2 hours by breakfast. 5. Going to Future Form: verb ?to be? in the present + going to+ plus base form of the verb. Usages: In this the structure looks very similar to present continuous especially when the present continuous form uses the verb ?to go? The difference is the ?going to? is always followed by a verb. Example: I am going to visit my family in April. I think it?s going to rain later! 6.Present Simple Form: subject + base form+ S Usages: Something that is true in the present: I?m nineteen years old. Something that happens again and again in the present: I play football every weekend. Something that is always true: The adult human body contains 206 bones. 7.Present Continuous Form: be + present participle Usages: For something that is happening at the moment of speaking: Example: I?ll be home in an hour. For something which is happening before and after a given time: At eight o?clock we are usually having breakfast. For something which we think is temporary: I?m working in London for the next two weeks. For something which is new and contrasts with a previous state: What sort of music are they listening to? To show that something is changing, growing or developing: The children are growing quickly. For something which happens again and again: It?s always raining in London.
