Equal involvement in a lesson can be done by setting up the class in a circular seating arrangement. Eye contact is important to make learners feel equally involved. Simple, consistent language should be used when giving instructions. If individual attention is required, the teacher should try not to single out the student but rather try to have other students distracted on a task when helping someone. Class arrangement is integral to the flow and effectiveness of the class. The teacher should set up the class in a way that will enhance the learning of the students, and a way that is appropriate to the lesson. If the teacher will be doing a lot of talking, setting up in rows is more ideal. If the teacher wants to encourage student talk, a circle, horseshoe or grouping set up is ideal. Teacher talking time is important when presenting, checking, modelling or clarifying, providing language input, giving instructions, setting up activities, establishing rapport. Teachers can avoid unnecessary talking by avoiding jargon, keeping explanations simple, using careful explanations, using gestures, mimes or pictures, using language below the level that is being taught. Establishing rapport is important to maintaining discipline. Teachers need to be careful not to shout at learners, not to single out students or humiliate, and to abide by the school's code of conduct.
