Unit 11 is on the importance of teaching receptive skills. Receptive skills are the skills necessary for receiving new information effectively and include reading and listening. A student must be able to gain new info from reading texts, books and articles. It is also important to be able to gain information from listening to others speak and through other audio sources such as television and radio. Both listening and reading skills are equally important and thus should be practiced so. One way in which a teacher can practice this skill is; by playing a particular audio sequence once to gain interest, then take a break to explain some of the harder vocabulary, and then repeat the audio sequence for the class so they can hear it again with more knowledge on what they are listening to.
