This unit touched a lot on my current experience as an ALT in southern japan: extensive work with beginners. Even after a year of teaching, I find I still make big mistakes in how I interact with students and the way classes are run. I find myself slipping into their native language, even though I don't know much of it. It's difficult to find ways to motivate beginner students in such a structured school setting. I've learned a lot of good tips from this unit, tips that I had forgotten. It seems like such a simple thing- to know about your students as individuals, but it can be harder than it looks.
