This unit covered the basics of student evaluation. There are different tests that students may be subject to during an ESL course and after, depending on their motivations. Teachers will use placement, diagnostic and progress tests to determine a student's language level, problem areas and level of retention during the course, respectively. The teacher may also utilize practice exams to prepare students for external exams such as the TOEFL, should students require this for their future career or educational goals. The unit also provided guidelines for creating a placement or progress test.
