This unit is about the materials one might be using in teaching english. Authentic materials can be anything from a menu, to a tv Guide, magazine article, movie, etc. They must be targeted to the abilities of the students and are generally better at creating interest and motivation. Care must be taken with authentic materials and beginners. Created material is targeted to the student abilities, teaching needs, etc. Published course books have the advantages of being complete, and with built in review of previously studied language, however no teacher should rely entirely on course books for lesson planning as they can stunt the creativity of the teacher and the power to target the individual needs of the students.
