This section tried to explain lesson planning in about 1000 words. A tall order, but one that was accomplished reasonably well. I was surprised that the test seemed to check my understanding of ESA lesson formatting more than actual planning and that the lesson planning elements described in the reading were not discussed beyond a simple definition. Choosing learner objectives and organizing them into a sequence of lessons is a non-trival undertaking that I am looking forward to reading more about in future lessons.In this unit, the technique of evaluation and testing was discussed. The different types of tests used within and without the language school were listed. Placement tests gauge a students ability prior to entering a certain language program. Diagnostic tests help the teacher to know more specifically each students strengths, weaknesses and what needs to be taught. Progress tests are used throughout the year to measure how much the students are learning. Practice tests help prepare for external tests such as the TOEFL.
