I learned a lot about what a placement test should include. This chapter was very helpful in outlining all the different external exams. I had only really heard of the TOEFL, TOEIC, and the Cambridge CAE Before. It caused me to think a lot about the difficulties an english teacher might face: if teaching a class designed to prepare students for an external exam, then obviously you would teach them in preparation for the exam. However, if you are teaching what is supposed to be a general English class, with some students there to prepare for exams and some just there to learn conversational English, then it would be harder to keep both groups happy. I am glad I just teach elementary school. Also, I disagree with those teachers that students shouldn't be evaluated, because I think classroom participation is not an accurate judge of how well a student is learning.
