The unit focused on course materials, the advantages and disadvantages of teaching from a course book. I learnt the differences between authentic materials and created materials. Authentic materials are what native speakers read or hear such as songs, menus or magazines etc. Created materials are usually created by the teacher to suit the needs of the students, the materials can be used to replace or supplement materials from a course book. Created materials can be: crosswords, role-play cards and Gap fill activities etc. I also learnt that there are four different options for course book use: 1. Omit, 2. Replace, 3. Supplement and 4. Adapt. There were also many useful ideas for created materials.
