When teaching receptive skills, various materials which are engaging, challenging, yet not intimidating should be chosen. Much the same for assignments, which hone productive skills, because if the goal for a writing or speaking assignment is far beyond the student's capabilities or is not interesting, the students will be reluctant to complete it. A teacher must be able to foresee which vocabulary's meanings might be difficult for the students to infer. Also, a teacher must teach the different techniques which are used when reading and listening to find information. This unit was really interesting in regards to using a course book. As a teacher who doesn't use a course book, I feel having a couple of different sources (teacher books and workbooks) would help scaffold certain exercises and activities. It also helps unfold a unit of study. I like the examples that were given, though I feel some of the role play is gaged at adults trying to learn the language and not students. This is not a bad thing as I might teach adults English some day. This unit forced me to think about my current lesson plans and how can I add to them.
