This unit talks about the different kinds of tests that are commonly used to assess students' level of English proficiency. Some, such are diagnostic tests and placement tests, are taken before the start of a course, while others (progress tests and practice tests) are taken during the course. It also talks about the different kinds of external examinations available out there, such as TOEFL, IELTS, the Cambridge examinations, etc. After reading this unit, I feel that I know much more about the types of examinations that are commonly used to assess English proficiency levels.I believe that troubleshooting will initially be my greatest challenge when teaching. I am confident that I will be able to present materials in a confident, concise and comprehensive manner following substantial preparation. However, in my experience, teaching when people find it hard to understand the content has been difficult. As always, I'm sure that practice will assist me here and the notes in the coursework have pointed me in the right direction. I will endeavour to read material regarding common mistakes for specific populations prior to commencing work in this area.
