This unit gives an overview of the different parts of speech Nouns: Words that are used to denote people, places, animals, state, things etc. There are mainly five types of nouns proper, common, compound, abstract and collective noun. Apart from that they can be categorized as countable and uncountable. Adjective: Words that are used to define noun. There can be comparative and superlative adjective. Articles: There are two types of articles, definite (the) and indefinite (a and an) which are used to indicate definite or indefinite nouns Verbs: Words that signify action or state. There are transitive and intransitive verbs depending on whether it is followed by an object or not. Verbs have four forms. By adding ?to? infront of a verb we turn it into infinitives. Adverbs: Adverbs adds meaning to the verbs. There are five main types of adverbs. Gerunds: The -ing form of a verb used as a noun. Pronouns: Words used instead of nouns. There are four types personal, possessive, reflexive and relative. Prepositions: Words that show relationship between noun, pronouns and other words in the sentence.
