This unit covers the different materials and resources available for use in the classroom and how to use these materials in lesson planning. There are different materials that we could bring in the class such as worksheets, pictures, recordings, etc. but all of these materials are classified into authentic and non-authentic materials. Authentic materials are real and less predictable than examples created for specific teaching purposes. These are the advantages of using authentic materials and we should keep these in mind when designing materials for the classroom and wherever possible, we should try to make our materials as authentic as we can. Other resources such as course books and the use of internet were also discussed. The lesson planning explained in this unit used either EP or ESA methodology. Why create a lesson plan, what should be in it and how to use it are the questions to be considered in lesson planning. The example lesson plan included which used an EP methodology has been very useful since it?s my first time to encounter this method but I think the information is not enough and I still have to do additional research on this. It?s important to manage the class well throughout the lesson. Although there is no best method, my teaching style should be flexible and can adapt to the situation I find myself in. Voice, gesture, eye contact, grouping students, using their names, classroom arrangement, teacher position, giving attention, monitoring and feedback, giving clear instructions, and knowing my students are some of the different tools/ways to maintain order in the classroom.
