The content Unit 3 Theories, methods and techniques teaches about several distinct teaching methods English teachers, as well as other language teachers, can implement in their courses to help the students learn the target language that is being studied. There is no perfect teaching method since the teaching depends on what the educator wants the students to accomplish, as well as the personality of the educator. The content of this section also focused on the Engage Study Activate (ESA) method which allows students to have exposure, practice and produce the material from the language lesson. The ESA method demonstrates that a language teacher, not just English, should never begin class with the topic or material of the day, but rather begin with warm-up activities to allow the students to speak or converse in the target language. Then the teacher should introduce what he or she is going to teach, and here is where the teacher can tap into their background knowledge by finding out what the students know and what they do not know yet, and then allow the students to practice. Once the students have been exposed and had practice with the material, this is when students can be allowed to produce the language freely. The main ideas I have gotten from the ESA method is that it is important for the students to practice the information that is being taught and there should be authentic activities which allow the students to put the information they have learned into real-life situations. Feedback is mostly done in the Study stage since here the focus is on accuracy not fluency, but feedback should not be ignored in the activate stage because some students might continue to make errors, and if little errors are ignored, many students might believe that what they say or write is correct when it is not.
