As its self explanatory title states, this unit presents the basic elements of english grammar and describes the main parts of speech and their characteristics. Taking what we most commonly find within a basic sentence structure, like subject and action, the unit moves towards more specific elements of a sentence to reach what is referred as parts of the speech, meaning the categories that any word in a sentence can be classified at, and their purpose. The unit deals with 8 main categories (nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns and prepositions/conjunctions) and some of their subcategories, also explaining the nuances between them and how to properly place them in a sentence. Most of the content of this unit was already known to me, but some subcategories and the way that plays a role with the placement of the word within the sentence was something I haven't realized. The attempts to state a rule for ordering several adjectives was useful too. The concept of the zero article (instead of no article) was also new to me, and can prove to be of help when explaining the concept to basic level students. The video also shows interesting information, specially about rules of spelling I wasn't aware of and always considered as exceptions to the general rule to be memorized case by case.
